The Christmas Surprise
The Christmas Surprise is the beginning of an animation in which a boy doesn’t believe in Santa, so his dad plays Santa to convice his son he is real, but then gets caught in the act by the real Santa.
I abandoned this project, but this was my first animated short with a proper story. It also was my first contact with character animation and simulation.
The whole project is made in Blender and the scene was exported from Minecraft.
I produced two more models, a sleigh with two reindeer and Santa Claus, that were already rigged and ready for animation, but I never reached the scenes where they would appear, so I made turntable animations for them. The sleigh was built in Minecraft and then exported with its textures as an obj file, the rest was modeled from scratch. The Santa Clause texture was downloaded from a free skin site for Minecraft.
A bit later, I re-used the set and the Santa Claus model in a very short short called “Merry Christmas - A Minecraft Short”.
